BETTER CARE FOR OLDER AUSTRALIANS

From Saturday 20 September, the Albanese Labor Government took an important step to improve the quality of care available to Older Australians.

The Hotelling Supplement, used by residential aged care facilities to help meet everyday living costs like cleaning, catering and laundry, will increase.

Currently a little over $15 per resident per day, the supplement has fallen behind what is needed to support residents.

The Government will increase the supplement by 42% to $22.15 per resident per day and index it each September. This ensures providers are supported to improve services now, while giving them long-term confidence that funding will continue into the future.

From 1 October there will also be further improvements, including an average increase of $10 per resident per day through changes to the Australian National Aged Care Classification rates, and additional support for increased care minutes.

Quotes attributable to Dan Repacholi MP, Federal Member for Hunter

“I’ve spoken with aged care providers right across the Hunter, from Cessnock to Singleton and Lake Macquarie, and they’ve told me how much this extra support will help keep standards high.”

“This is about providing improved care, support and dignity for Older Australians in residential aged care.”

“The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety showed where the system had failed Older Australians and we’re getting on with the job of fixing it.”

“This isn’t just a quick patch-up job. By indexing the supplement each September, we’re locking in long-term certainty for providers and residents.”
