Volunteer Cooking Teachers Needed
Every week, a group of local fellas get together for three hours of hands on classes held at Wangi. They follow the teacher’s instructions, cook lunch, sit down to share it, and even take home another meal for later.
For many of the men who come along, widowers, carers, or those whose partners can no longer cook, this is more than just a cooking class. It’s about learning new skills, building friendships, and staying connected.
Loneliness is a big issue for many men, especially as they get older. Programs like this one at Wangi don’t just fill the fridge, they fill a bigger gap, making sure no one is left feeling on their own.
The Challenge
Right now, the program needs more teachers. More teachers mean more students can take part, and more local men can benefit. They’re run under the umbrella of U3A Lake Macquarie but they need a bit of a boost to spread the word.
